The music scene at Cafe Tanstaafl (campus hangout) underwent a dramatic change on the evening of August 23rd. The usual Bhojpuri tunes were replaced by popular Bollywood and English numbers at the Music Club event Euphony. Euphony is an annual event held at CT where music club members perform songs of all genres. Euphony was started to give a platform for performing acoustic songs since the auditorium does not do justice to them. Hence the specialty of this event is that all songs performed are acoustic.

This time around, for the first time in the history of the event, the stage was opened up for non-Music Club members. Interested candidates were chosen after a round of auditions and the event saw an equal number of members and non-members performing and sharing the joy of creating music. There were songs appealing to a wide range of tastes and audiences. Popular Bollywood and English numbers were belted out alternately. Comfortably Numb and Time by Pink Floyd, I’m Yours by Jason Mraz, Hallelujah, Freedom from the OST of Django Unchained were among the many songs performed.

The informal setting of Euphony sets it apart from the other music club events. There is a deeper sense of involvement for the audience given the close proximity with the musicians. After an initial rain scare, the weather was on the side of the performers as the cool breeze encouraged more and more people to stop at CT and enjoy the live music. People were seen cheering for their friends and singing along to their favourite songs.
