The Placement Committee of IIM Ahmedabad is organizing Entrepreneurship Fair 2010 on 7th November 2010. IIM Ahmedabad has always been at the forefront of promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst its students. This event will be a networking forum for students and start-ups, after which students may express interest in seeking internships in these enterprises. This year we are extending participation in the Entrepreneurship Fair by inviting all business schools across India. The Entrepreneurship Fair 2010 is expected to be a grand platform which brings together budding entrepreneurs from across the nation and some of the most recent start-up successes in India from diverse domains and background. It is being organized with support from the IIM Ahmedabad Entrepreneurship Club and Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE).
The institute has been organizing a “Start-Up Fair” since several years to allow students to explore internship opportunities in start-up firms. In the past, the fair has received a good response from both students and entrepreneurs. There are examples where a student who had interned in a start-up actually set-up his own venture immediately after graduation. Placement Chairperson, Prof. Saral Mukherjee, commented, “This initiative is aimed at establishing a national level talent source for start-up firms. It allows a MBA student toying with the idea of starting his/her own venture a peek into the real life challenges faced by a start-up firm. The start-up firm benefits from having MBA interns carry out 10-week long projects. The main change this year is that instead of restricting participation to IIMA students, we are opening access to all business schools. Let a thousand entrepreneurs bloom.”
The students are encouraged to interact with any firm present on the day, find out more about the firm – its objectives, the initial seed idea, the challenges faced, the current status, opportunities within the sector, future plans and so on. To the enthusiastic student this also presents an unparalleled forum to interact directly with entrepreneurs to understand how a potential business opportunity turns into a successful venture; it also helps the student explore the alternative to work or intern with the firm.
Recruitment Secretary, Movin Jain, commented, “Our students have diverse interests – this fair caters to those who enjoy steep responsibilities, and would like to work in a new and small firm. We also hope that this fair will promote entrepreneurship as a career choice among all the students. For the visiting companies, this would be a great chance to interact with talented individuals, and explore the option of involving some of them as interns”
